Every year about this time of year there’s This day. Although not nearly as anticipated as Christmas, Thanksgiving, or even May 2-4, each year I yearn in anticipation of This day. It comes on a different date each year, and it’s really hard to even predict when it will be, although it’s usually after months of snow, slush and a grey atmosphere. The thing I love so much about This day is that each year it never fails to disappoint.
This day I’m talking about? It’s the first day of warm, sunny weather. Not ridiculously warm, but the first day when you step outside and for once, you don’t need to wince at the biting wind. It’s The day that reminds you of what you’ve been missing for the past four long months. I love stepping outside and being so pleasantly suprised by the warmth and sun. I get to put my jacket back in the closet and just wear my sweater. I love that This day automatically seems to improve everyone’s mood by just a little bit. I also love that This day is never quite as warm as everyone optimistically thought it was and as a result you get to see the premature dusting off of sandals and shorts, and although everyone who’s outside sans jacket, and socks is just a little bit cold, there’s no need to admit it, because there seems to be this unwritten rule that you just soak in what sun you can and let the goosebumps speak for themself. It’s This day that the streets seem to come alive again with all sorts of people and for the first time in four months you feel good after the walk you just took, like your heart is just a little bit fuller than it was yesterday.
Today? Today was That day. And I’m proud to report I took full advantage of Today.
