I really wanted to put the word “BUM” in this title, but decided against it…

April 29, 2009 · 2 Comments

As I write this post, I’m sprawled out on our couch, with my feet up, and my back propped against the arm rest with a pillow.

No big deal right?

INCORRECT. Normally, you’re right, this would be no big deal.  People lounge on their couches all the time after a long day.  But today? Today was glorious, because up until today, we have had no couch.

Due to the flood of epic proportions, (ok, clearly 4 inches of water isn’t so much epic proportions, but really, doesn’t that make it sound better?)  our furniture was damaged and we needed to get a new couch.  Can I remind you that the flood was on February 12th? And today is April 29th? This means for the past 2.5 months we have had NO FURNITURE.  And so this also means for the past 2.5 months we’ve been sitting in a lawn chair.  A LAWN CHAIR PEOPLE.

I’m not sure it can get much more ghetto than 1 lawn chair, and 1 office chair sitting pathetically in front of a tv, surrounded by unpacked boxes 2 months after you’ve moved somewhere.  I think all we were missing was the Costco-sized-32-pack of Kraft Dinner sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. Can we say CLASSY??

I can also attest to the fact that coming home after a long day of work just isn’t quite as satisfying when the only place you have to sit has a mesh drink holder attached to it.  Do you know how hard it is to try and nap in a lawn chair?  My neck and back are angry at me  these days after I forced them to crumple into a kinked heap as I tried to nap in the chair.

Thankfully our insurance company ponied up BIG TIME and we ended up doing alright in the reimbursement department, so, for the first time in our married lives Ben and I own new furniture.  (We had been surviving on furniture that Ben had been given when we were engaged)  We went a few weeks ago and picked out a couch/love seat set and today it finally came.   (I’ll put up some pictures when we get everything in place)

And my bum is in heaven.  (see where I was going with the title? eh? eh?).  We can finally set up our living area now that we have furniture.  We can finally have people over because we can offer them somewhere to sit.  S-l-o-w-l-y but surely our lives are getting back on track.  Now all I need to do is tackle the big box of my clothes that is currently overtaking the closet.  Check back in in another  2 and half months and maybe I’ll have made some progress.

A list

April 28, 2009 · 2 Comments

Yesterday was a glorious 27 degrees.  27 DEGREES people.  (80 for you Americans out there).  And I had a day off.  So to commemorate one of the first really warm days of the year, I thought I’d put together a little list of my accomplishements for the day:

things I did do:

  • Wore shorts
  • Went for a run
  • Sat outside and read a book
  • drank lots of water
  • Napped
  • Got a little bit darker
  •  Watched a rugby game of one of my youth
  • Got ice cream with Ben after supper (not just ANY ice cream, Marble Slab ice cream, with Snickers and oreos….well, I guess there goes my run)

And just for convenience purposes (because I know you care…), here’s a list of things I did NOT do:

  • work
  • enough dishes (I did some….but let’s just say I had higher hopes of clearing off the ol’ counter today)
  • wear pants (that sounds a little funny…but please refer to the “things I did do list” so you don’t think I’m one of those people)
  • watch One tree Hill. (I KNOW.  But getting ice cream took longer than we thought, and sometimes, it’s just more romantic sitting on a park bench with your husband in a picturesque downtown setting having a great conversation)
  • Clean up the massive heap of clothes that keeps growing beside my bed.

It was a great day.

Let’s play a little game mmmmk?

April 22, 2009 · 5 Comments

When Karmyn woke up this morning, she couldn’t seem to get her right eye all the way open.

Was this because:

A) She was still SO tired, and was just having a hard time getting going?

B) She forgot that she was wearing a night shade, so really, she was opening her eye, but it just seemed so dark, she thought she wasn’t? (Silly Karmyn)

C) Her eye was fused shut from the CRUSTY, OOZY PUSS and SWELLING that overtook her eye during the night, seemingly due to an eye infection?

Well my friends, if you guessed C, than you’re a WINNER!!!! (Begin checking your mailboxes for an official prize from the people here at The Ongoings of Our Life)

Clearly, I can’t leave you without a picture – because this stuff is just too awesome to leave off the internet for the world to see. I will warn you however, that I took this picture as soon as I got up, so I think we can both agree that I’ve looked better.  Oh well. A while back I put up a picture of my butt eating my pants, so it can’t be worse than that. (And no, I will not hyperlink that for you….if you’re so curious, you can go looking for it yourself).

What this picture doesn’t show is the all the puss crusted in my eyelashes, but I guess I’ll spare you from a zoomed in shot, since I’m already making you stare at my unruly morning hair.  (well, and face for that matter).

I’ll be fine – nothing a few eye drops won’t fix.  And I’m thinking in the interim, while my eye is still swollen that I can probably tell people I got in a fight and boy, oh boy, you should see the other guy.

You know that feeling you get when you’ve worked hard all day and then you slip into a relaxing hot tub?

April 20, 2009 · 3 Comments

That’s how I feel right now.  Sadly, not because I actually sat in a hot tub, heck, we don’t even have a BATHtub…but nevertheless, the feeling is there.  Today marks the first day since the middle of February that I haven’t felt like I have more to do than hours in the day.

Since returning from Mexico (which was March 8 for those of you that are counting…) I’ve had 4 days off.  FOUR.  That includes weekends. I have more digits on ONE HAND than I’ve had days off.  I think it’s safe to say that it’s been a little hectic around these parts.

But all with good stuff!  We had an incredible youth retreat a few weeks back: despite the blizzard conditions (in APRIL….really? What’s with me and blizzards in April?), we had a great time and our group really grew tight.   I continue to be humbled at what God chooses to do with these students and I am so pumped that I get to be a part of that.

The week after the retreat, I coordinated a Prayer Experience for our church, which also went great.  (and again, made for very looong days).   In the days leading up to Easter, it was a privilege to help faciliate ways for people to stop and reflect on Christ.

The week after that,  I spent my days putting together the service for this past Sunday.  We had a youth service, and a bunch of them shared. I spoke a bit, and all in all, it was a fun morning.

But today? Today I did n-o-t-h-i-n-g. And it was great.  I watched Price is Right, took a 2 hour nap, spent far too long on the internet, watched One Tree Hill (of course) ,  and just in general, relaxed.  I forgot how nice it was to not have a deadline looming over my head.

So, hopefully this means that I’ll actually blog now.  I feel like I’ve kind of given you all the shaft lately.  I’ve either ignored this thing completely, or I’ve been the Queen of the Whine: I’m so busy, I only have a few days off, I’m sick, I’m homeless, blah, blah blah…

But here’s to a new future, you and me.  Thanks for sticking it out.  I’ve given this thing a new look, and heck, I even updated my “about” section.  (Because let’s be honest…nothing says “lame” like an about section that has my age at a number that I’ll never see again. ever.)

To close, (because apparently, I’ve taken to writing formal essays on this blog), here’s a picture of Ben and I at his cousin’s wedding back in March.  Can we discuss for a few moments my RIDICULOUS tan lines?  I wasn’t so much concerned in Mexico about pulling down the halter on my bikini to avoid the strap lines forming on my shoulders, but clearly, I should have been.

I know, you hate me

April 18, 2009 · 2 Comments

I would to.

It’s been a ridiculously long stretch between my last post and this one, and let’s be honest -both of these posts are just lame excuses to fill up my blog wall, so that you don’t have to see the same title over and over again.

And I realize that in my last post, where I claim not to bail on this blog I say that I just needed a week (or at the most 2) to get my life in order and then I’d be back.  Annnnnnd it’s been over 3.

But for real this time – I’m almost back.  As in, give me 2 more days and then I’ll put something real up here.  For serious.
