As I write this post, I’m sprawled out on our couch, with my feet up, and my back propped against the arm rest with a pillow.
No big deal right?
INCORRECT. Normally, you’re right, this would be no big deal. People lounge on their couches all the time after a long day. But today? Today was glorious, because up until today, we have had no couch.
Due to the flood of epic proportions, (ok, clearly 4 inches of water isn’t so much epic proportions, but really, doesn’t that make it sound better?) our furniture was damaged and we needed to get a new couch. Can I remind you that the flood was on February 12th? And today is April 29th? This means for the past 2.5 months we have had NO FURNITURE. And so this also means for the past 2.5 months we’ve been sitting in a lawn chair. A LAWN CHAIR PEOPLE.
I’m not sure it can get much more ghetto than 1 lawn chair, and 1 office chair sitting pathetically in front of a tv, surrounded by unpacked boxes 2 months after you’ve moved somewhere. I think all we were missing was the Costco-sized-32-pack of Kraft Dinner sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. Can we say CLASSY??
I can also attest to the fact that coming home after a long day of work just isn’t quite as satisfying when the only place you have to sit has a mesh drink holder attached to it. Do you know how hard it is to try and nap in a lawn chair? My neck and back are angry at me these days after I forced them to crumple into a kinked heap as I tried to nap in the chair.
Thankfully our insurance company ponied up BIG TIME and we ended up doing alright in the reimbursement department, so, for the first time in our married lives Ben and I own new furniture. (We had been surviving on furniture that Ben had been given when we were engaged) We went a few weeks ago and picked out a couch/love seat set and today it finally came. (I’ll put up some pictures when we get everything in place)
And my bum is in heaven. (see where I was going with the title? eh? eh?). We can finally set up our living area now that we have furniture. We can finally have people over because we can offer them somewhere to sit. S-l-o-w-l-y but surely our lives are getting back on track. Now all I need to do is tackle the big box of my clothes that is currently overtaking the closet. Check back in in another 2 and half months and maybe I’ll have made some progress.
